Caring for Your Natural wood Sign

If your sign has natural wood areas and is painted black in the engraved areas, it is coated with Minwax Helmsman Spar Urethane (oil based), which is meant to hold up to the harshest elements, but even the best clear coat doesn’t last forever. To keep your sign looking brand new, we recommend you clean it once a year with soapy water and apply a new coat of Helmsman urethane in spray can form. If not maintained, the finish may weaken and the wood may naturally start to dull/fade. If at any point you notice think the finish may need a touch up in spots you can clean the area with soapy water and give it a few spray coats locally. If soap does not remove the problem area, you can lightly hand-sand with a fine grit sand paper to remove the blemish then apply the clear coat locally.

Caring for Your Painted Sign

If your sign is fully painted with no wood showing, it is coated with Helmsman Minwax Helmsman Spar Urethane (water based) The maintenance steps above still apply the same, just with a different clear coat.
